The Yiwu Cousins poster has been produced each summer since 1999. The posters have varied from 18inx18in to 20x24 in size. Since 2002 I have also produced a soft-cover 8.5in x 11in yearbook with the same children as the poster. The poster and yearbook are only available to the families that send photos and the small charge to cover production costs. A copy of the yearbook is also sent to Yiwu Social Welfare Institute.
Photos and forms for the 2010 yearbook and poster were accepted until July 2, 2010.
Only the first 70 children's photos received will be guaranteed a spot on the poster! All photos received by the deadline will be put in the yearbook (only one photo per child).
Please note that the posters and yearbooks are only available to the families that sent photos. Only one poster and/or yearbook per family will be available, as it is a time consuming process for the volunteers to print, package, and mail them.
Those of you who are new to the group, or who didn't send any photo of your child last year, can see low-res screenshots of the 18"x18" to 18"x24" posters I did in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. 2009.
You can also see the front covers of the yearbooks.
For those of you who sent photos before, I only need a new photo of your daughter or son. For those who have not been on the poster before, I need both a photo and a copy of the Chinese characters for your child's orphanage name. I put the Chinese name on so the Yiwu SWI personnel can better remember the children. Most Chinese don't read pin-yin Romanization of Chinese, so I need the actual characters. This is most easily found on the Chinese passport or adoption paperwork. You can find my postal address in the directory.
These are the photos you may send:
Photos can either be good prints that I will scan, or high-quality digital photos. They shouldn't be cell phone photos or digital photos made for web use, as those generally look rather poor when printed. An electronic photo sent to me should generally be at least 500K - 1Mbyte in size. My email has a 10MB attached file size limit though, so no huge raw format digital photos please.
Poster and yearbook layout and publishing is done with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
The posters will be printed on an HP DesignJet 5000 printer at 600dpi on plain paper stock, unlaminated. Your local Kinko's can laminate it for you if you wish. Frames can be easily obtained at Walmart or other discount stores.
The cost per poster or yearbook is $10 (US) for ink, media, packaging, and postage, checks payable to Ralph Stirling. Only one poster and/or yearbook per family please.
The yearbook will be 8.5 x 11 format, soft-cover, saddle-stapled binding, with four children per page. A center section includes general interest photos, such as kids engaged in various activities, visits to Yiwu SWI, or scenic photos from China. The poster will probably be 18x24 in size. Printing of the yearbooks and posters are provided as a service to the group by Yiwu parents who are printing professionals.
Please use the photo submission form posted to the yiwufamilies email list. If you lost this, and can't find it in the Yiwufamilies email list archives, just send me an email and I'll get you one.
Thanks for your participation!
